I simply have to direct you all to a fic at snarry_swap.
It's called Fearful Symmetry, it's by emynn, and it's brilliant.

I don't know how, but emynn made the most unlikely Animagus form for Severus seem completely plausible. This Harry is so broken yet nurturing in his own right, and the delicate balance the fic weaves between Harry and his animal friends is something to see.
Harry's stubbornness is perfect, as are Severus' reactions. The writing here is superb. Do give it a try.
