Ali's Fic Year in Review: 2010
Jan. 2nd, 2011 05:51 pmTime for the yearly fic wrap up.
I wasn't as organized this year as in years past so I'm switching things up a bit. Instead of an exhaustive (and exhaustING) list of my stories, I'm only going to hit the monthly highlights. *g*
January:
In which I posted 31,165 words of fic, most of which were left over from 2009 fests, tbh.
The fic I was proudest of this month (incidentally, also my longest fic post that month) was my Severus/Kingsley (12200 words) Through the Years Part One and Part Two.
The funnest to write was a toss up between my Lucius/Pansy for
daily_deviant (3050 words) The Real Malfoy, my Snarry (2350 words), for 2009's
adventdrabbles Double or Nothing and my Charlie/Draco
daily_deviant Kinky Kristmas fic, Leap of Faith.
Having to pick a favorite story is like having to choose your favorite child, I think. *sigh*
Anyway, I wrote 2,200 words of H/D and 6,450 of Snarry in Jan. The rest (22,515) came from assorted other pairings.
February:
45,060 words posted.
My favorite posting for that month is a tough choice. I had a great time writing Scent of a Man, my 2010 Snarry Swap fic (7500 words), as well as my
daily_deviant for the month (Charlie/Harry - 4000 words) The Fire WIthin.
My last
harry_holidays fic It's In Her Kiss (Hermione/Fred/George - 4550 words) was a hoot to do, too, as was my Severus_shorts fic One Year at a Time (5800). And I can't forget Luck of the Draw (H/D 12200 words) for
hpvalensmut.
This all gave me 15,950 words of H/D and 18,160 of Snarry, with the rest coming from other pairings.
March:
12,325 words.
Hands down my favorite fics to write this month were the two I wrote for
daily_deviant's birthday. The Examination Severus/Harry/Hermione (1800 words) and The Ties That Bind (Harry/Draco - 2100).
Overall: 4,575 words of H/D, 3450 of Snarry, and the rest was assorted others.
April:
17,335 words.
Funnest fics: Serpentine Satisfaction and Erotic Visions. Both Snarry. *g*
This was also the month that I came to the realization that Kingsley is always sexy, no matter who he's paired with. *g*
9,750 Snarry and 5,035 of H/D.
May:
35,430 words.
Funnest fics to write were, hands down: Patronus Play, Finding His Way Home and Captive Spirit. I chuckled all the way through writing all of these. *g*
Also, I have to give a special mention to The Beginning of an Uncommonly Good Relationship, which came from a crackalicious bunny generously shared with me by
leela_cat.
5,505 of H/D and 25,525 of Snarry! Whee!
June:
39,485 words
Draco Malfoy's birth month, which meant he got to do a lot of celebrating. ;)
I was particularly fond of By The Book (Severus/Harry/Draco - 3400 words).
And speaking of Drapery, I was also quite pleased with my HDS Beltane contributions: To Heal the World (Severus/Harry/Draco - 13500 words) and The One and Only (Snarry - 8800 words).
I ended up with 7,570 of H/D and 26,615 of Snarry.
July:
30,210 words.
Funnest fic to write: a toss up between my
hd_smoochfest The Voyage Home (H/D - 10,200 words), which make me want to go on a European tour *sigh* and Private Practice (Harry/Pansy - although not really. This is one I thought more of my H/D peeps would read since I hinted as broadly as I could that all was not as it appeared. /unsubtle hint).
The fic that tripped me up: Never Say Never (Snarry - 4000). The drinking game in it gave me fits and I screwed it up when I submitted it. I ended up having to fix it in the repost. *sigh*
18,610 of H/D and 8,200 of Snarry.
August:
My pithiest month! 11,406 words.
Although, this was when I wrote my most blasphemous fic ever to date: Confession (Snarry - 1350) I must admit, it was really fun. ;)
4,200 of H/D and 4,806 Snarry.
September:
32,310 words.
The month in which I wrote Snack! *boggles at self*
Seducing Snape was my attempt to 'please the
daily_deviant mod' and it seems to have worked, although it was not the easiest fic to manage.
Incidentally, it was also the month Ali wrote bottom!Snape. The aforementioned Snack and this short Snarry inspired by Verdari's art -
Outdoor Conversation - both featured toppy Bottom!Snape. Heh.
Also, this was the month of my first collab with Lilyseyes. We wrote a dirty detention Snarry What Harry Did in Detention for
dementordelta. That fic was prolly my easiest of the year and made me smile inappropriately through many work meetings since we wrote it together via text. Heh. Fun times.
And of course, This was also the month of Back to Hogwarts Snarry.
The Collection was prolly the fic plot I loved writing the most this month and my other contribution to that fest, For The Best made me gleeful because it took in so many readers. Heh. *loves being tricksy*
6,396 for H/D and 19,315 for Snarry.
October:
25,200 words.
Funnest fic? Best Time of the Day (H/D - 1000 words) I guess I just enjoyed the idea of Draco working for Hermione and flirting with Harry over his lunch hour. ;)
Also, who knew the Burrow was such a great place for smexing? Well Harry and Severus, of course as I showed in Intoxication.
15,465 H/D and 6,255 Snarry.
November:
14,145 words.
Most fun to write? Definitely Worth the Wait. Again proving how much fun it is to write Kingsley (who can't help being sexy).
Also, one of my favorites this month (and the year) was Proper Family Etiquette (2600 words), featuring a post-war Lucius who is finding the best way for his family to navigate the world (and with background Snarry of course). *g*
2,900 H/D and 3,145 Snarry.
December:
45,295 words.
Since I can't talk about any of my fest fics because reveals are yet to come, I guess I just mention a few other things I really enjoyed doing this month.
I wrote Dr Who fic for
3fan_holidays! One For Himself is pretty much gen, although there is Amy/Rory snogging and Doctor/River innuendo. *g*
My series for Slythindor100, which basically turned into a 20K fic, is under my Lost and Found Tag and was tons of fun to write. I loved all the 'advice' people kept giving me. Heh.
And I'll take the opportunity to mention a couple of things that I was pleased with and that may have been missed in the busy holiday posting. The Lights of Christmas (Draco/Neville - 100 x 7) is a world I may have to return to, as is the world I created for Severus and Harry in The Shop of Requirement.
27,742 H/D and 14,003 Snarry.
And that's it for major fics for the year.
As you all know, I write tons of drabbles which, for anyone interested, can be found either under my drabbles tab or by specific character or pairing, and if I mention them all we'll be here all week.
Just a few quick highlights, though.
I am still working on the serial drabbles I've been writing all year for
dracoharry100's prompts, the New Beginnings Series, although I anticipate I'll finish that early in 2011.
My Kingsley-centric drabbles have been opening my eyes to all sort of new pairings, although my faves were prolly A Commanding Presence, Scheduled Holiday and Getting His Man.
And of course, whenever possible, I tried to put Snarry in my drabbles. *g* It's what I do!
So that's it!
The official word total for 2010 is:
339,336 words of HP fic. Almost identical to last year which was 339,300. :)
If I add in my one Dr Who fic it goes up to 341,086. Go me?
Breakdown: 111,948 words of H/D, 145,674 Snarry, with a measly 7,435 for Drapery. *sigh* There was a fair bit of Neville and Kingsley, though, so yay. :)
As for resolutions, I do have a few.
1) Write more gen! Yes, I say this every year and yet it never seems to happen. I would love to explore some lesser-known characters (Millicent, Cho, Blaise, etc.)
2) Write more Drapery! My OT3 got shafted (heh) this year. I'll have to see what I can do to make it up to them.
3) Fewer fests. Yes, I know, I say it every year but I have recertification boards later this year, and I must study, so I shall be really choosy about fests participation in 2011.
4) Trust my instincts about what I read. I'm getting better at this but I still fall into traps occasionally and I get sucked in to fics that hurt me in the end. *wibbles*
5) Collaborate with more people. I have such a great time when I do it. :)
6) Have more fun in fandom!
So, that's it. No big surprises I don't think. And this was a surprisingly fun post to do since I got to look over my stuff of the last year. :)
