So I've had several days to work out my thoughts on Deathly Hallows Part Two.

I guess I would have to say that, overall, I enjoyed it, although, of course, there were things I disliked, too. And, oddly enough, I didn't tear up or cry even once. I'm such a softie that I really thought I would, too. *shakes head*

That's not to say it wasn't emotional...

Really, the biggest problems I had with the story came from JK, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised?
Anyway, here are my moment by moment, as I recall them, reactions to DH.

Dobby! *sigh*

OMG, Griphook just told Harry that Snape stole the sword to give it to him! Harry, if you don't realize at that moment that Snape loves you is on your side then you are blind! Gah!

Harry is SO GROWN UP when he talks to Ollivander! *sigh* I can't imagine ickle!Harry telling anyone to their face that they're lying.

Seriously, Helen Bonam Carter pretending to be Hermione, pretending to be Bellatrix? BEST THING EVER! So perfect. Ahahahaha! "Good morning." *giggles* Polite!Bella is very suspicious. ;)

So the Gringott's scene was a bit truncated but well done. I did have a bit of an issue with how easily both Harry and Ron were casting the Unforgivables, though. But I suppose that's not the movie people's fault, it IS book canon. *glares at JK*

The vault scene was excellent, and the escape! Wow. It was every bit as nerve wracking in the movie as it was in the book. Great sequence.

The Caterwauling Charm made me laugh! I'm not sure what I imagined from the book description, but they handled it well in the movie.

And there was just the perfect amount of Dumbledore angst with Aberforth and Ariana (who for some reason I though would be blonde?).

Neville! *glomps him hard* I love him having a bit of fun with everyone who was hanging out in the RoR and surprising them with Harry. *g*

Although ugh for the wooden Harry/Ginny. Seriously? Would it have KILLED them to lay some groundwork for that non-relationship? *eyeroll* Harry actually had more chemistry with Cho in that scene, IMO.

I wibbled when the Snape confrontation scene came, which is why I rewrote it in my head. *g* here's my version:
Harry: How dare you stand there? Weren't you supposed to be waiting for me in your office?

Severus: *glares* I'm working, here, Potter. *eye twitches towards Carrows*

Harry: Um, right. Okay you...bad man, you. Here I am defying you! How'm I doing? *wink*

Severus: Great. So you should probably duck when Minerva fights me, and then I'll do my dramatic floaty robe thing and fly away and I'll see you in my office in, say, twenty?

Harry: Brilliant. And I LOVE your dramatic floaty robe thing. Mmmm.

Severus: Stop distracting me!

Minerva: *shoving Harry out of the way* Oh, will you two please get a room?

Severus: We're working on it! *does dramatic floaty robe thing*

Minerva: I can see why you like that, Potter.
Heh.

Okay, so that didn't happen, but it SHOULD HAVE!

Anyway, Snape is gone, and along comes what could have been the one useful canon change the movie people could have made. Only they chose not to.
Pansy, a scared shitless seventeen year old points out that Harry is right there and they all know the Voldie wants him since he just got through telling them. She and EVERY SLYTHERIN is summarily confined to the dungeons TO SCHOOL-WIDE APPLAUSE. *shakes head* This from the woman who says the worst sin in the world is bigotry. Please. /rant

*deep breath* Okay, so with all the 'evil Slytherins' gone and the Order there to defend the castle, Minerva (OMG she totally kicked ass) casts the 'make all the Hogwarts statues walk and fight spell' which was awesome! And she was so cute, talking about how she'd always wanted to do that. *g*

They cast a defensive shield around the school, but here's my question. Why not cast like ten shields so that as soon as one is down another one is there? Surely that has to have occurred to someone as a basic defence? Although I admit, the sight of it coming down was very dramatic. :)

And I dunno about you, but I always figured the population of the WW was pretty small? So WTH did Voldie find the thousands of DEs to attack Hogwarts? And wouldn't the rest of the WW be like, "um, we should go defend our kids"?

Neville! Defending one whole end of the castle by himself! He is so awesome, even when he's running from Snatchers, he's awesome. *glomps him*

Anyway, back to Harry. Harry runs off to look for Ravenclaw's diadem and Luna, who he's ignoring, finally has to like yell at him. I loved that little moment between them, it was like he was truly seeing her for the first time. And it totally made me believe in Harry/Luna. Which I guess is why they had to try to sell us on Neville?Luna? *more eyeroll*

Helene Ravenclaw. Wow, uptight lady, although I suppose I understand why. She was well played I think, just creepy enough to made it interesting.

And then there was the Ron/Hermione kiss after Hermione destroyed the cup Horcrux. You know, I can take or leave Ron/Hermione, but I have to say, that bit was cute. Well done, movie peeps!

RoR H/D. OMG, how could the movie peeps not see the H/D UST, there? And the wand porn. Heh.

Draco: This wand just doesn't...understand me.

Harry: *fondling Draco's wand that's in his pocket* Hmmm. Funny, I understand your wand just fine--
*cough*

Anyway, Fiendfyre! Well done! Very exciting, as was the destruction of the diadem. And Draco clutching Harry as they fly to safety! Eeee! Also, is anyone else thinking there should be Ron/Blaise porn now? ;)

Harry uses his Voldie-sense to track him to the boathouse!
*deep breath* And then it was time for the big scene I had been dreading. I clutched my tissues and prepared to bawl, only....Nothing.
Oh, it was kinda gruesome. Nagini struck several times, but when Harry ran in and began cradling Severus' face in his hands... *swoons*
And I'm sorry, but I wasn't convinced he was dead (prolly because he isn't). He looked like he'd turned away in the hopes that Harry et al would leave so he could Disapparate to the Caymans and set up his new tropical life using the slush fund he'd created for just such a moment. In my head I heard him saying "Honestly, Potter! Would you just GO already so I can get on with this? And do look me up once you figure out your sexual orientation." :)

The Prince's Tale was well done, I must admit. Ickel!Severus was adorable in his misfit clothes.
Bully!James was well cast, too, little prick. Icke!Lily was pretty and icke!Petunia was perfect.
Alan R was too old to play younger Severus, but he did a masterful job nonetheless. Every nuanced emotion was perfect and his weeping while holding dead!Lily in his arms was...haunting.

Poor Harry knows he has to die! *cuddles him*

He tells Ron and Hermione to kill the snake (WHY did they have to take that away from Neville?) and then goes to face his death.

Is it me, or does it seem like Harry basically ignored his father during the Resurection Stone scene? He spoke to Lily, to Sirius, to Remus... But hardly a word to James, and James didn't really do much but smile myopically at him. *shrugs*

Ooh, Narcissa! LOVE her here. SO cool and collected. And I know we've all been complaining about her hair, but I LOVED it in that scene. While Bella is cowering, Cissa represents! And all she wants is her boy safe. Go Malfoy momma!

Kings Cross! Wow, shades of Gandalf. *g* Dumbles was good, although I still would have smacked him I had I been Harry. *eyeroll* The Voldie!baby was QUITE creepy. *shivers*

And then more battle, Voldie is pissed that Harry is alive (surely at that point he should be thinking 'wtf is going on? Why can't I kill this little cockroach? I mean I've tried several times. Maybe I should re think this world domination plan?'). Oh well, I guess Voldie isn't big on introspection.

Malfoy's leave, and Cissa is so badass no one tries to stop her. *g* Lucy is a bit worse for wear, but hey, he'll be fine. Once Cissa has a good chat with him. ;)

*cuts to Severus sipping mai tai's on the beach in the Caymans* Oh wait, no. That's MY version. NM. *g*

Voldie's robes are snaky and can strangle Harry? WTF? And then, when Ron and Hermione can't do the deed, who steps in? Neville whacks Nagini! *the theatre goes apeshit*

Finally, after Harry takes Voldie bungie jumping and Voldie escapes, they have the final duel and Harry, with a simple disarming spell, makes Voldie dissolve into tiny bits of scrap paper.

Harry destroys the Elder Wand? WTF? I didn't think you could do that. Oh well, all that means is that his new wand Draco's is his to command. Heh.

And, nineteen years later, Harry is still friends with Ron, Hermione and Ginny (who, OMG, looked like shit). He sends his sons off to school satisfied that when he hears which House Al was Sorted into (the owl will prolly come to him at Severus' house in the Caymans, were he lives), it'll all be fine.

Also? Astoria is hot, yo! Draco looked very satisfied, as well he should. :)

The End (until JK tries to fuck with it again)

Overall verdict? I really enjoyed it. The things that annoyed me in the movie were the things that annoyed me from canon, so no surprises there. I think the little things they trimmed could use trimming, a few details annoyed but I'll give it to them because, well, I loved it.

Love your corrections! Especially:

Severus: We're working on it! *does dramatic floaty robe thing*
Minerva: I can see why you like that, Potter. Heh.

I think we all can see why he likes it. ;-)

And YES to your comment on the Slytherin bashing. I still don't get why JKR thinks ambition is so totally teh ebil, given that she is not exactly giving anything away for free. Remember the children in India she went after for building a Hogwarts replica for a local festival entry? Then again, double standards are a Gryffindor specialty, and she's made no secret that she worships all things Gryff. ;-)

So agreed on the Unforgivables >: And look how Imperius is a sparkly light once it's being used by the bad guys!!

And Minerva! She came across as LESS sympathetic, and the Slytherins more so! Which I sort of liked, in fact, because we also see a few Slytherins fighting for Hogwarts later :)

But yes. W00t for Minerva, Neville, and Luna!! No w00t for Neville/Luna. I believe we're agreed.

(except for the icky Snarry :p)
