Ali's Fic Year in Review: 2011
Jan. 3rd, 2012 07:09 pmTime for the 2011 yearly fic wrap up.
Despite vowing to be more organized this year I didn't quite manage it. *eyes empty spreadsheet* I did like the format of last year's wrap up, though, which was to hit my monthly highlights, so I'll be doing that again this year.
Thank you to everyone who read and commented on my stuff. I know that there are a lot of things out there vying for attention, so I appreciate every comment I receive.
January:
In which I posted 58,077 words of fic, most of which were left over from 2010 fests.
2011 was the year in which I tried to tackle some of the things on my squicks list, hence my
daily_deviant (henceforth DD) for January, A Night to Remember which featured Cormac/Hermione non-con. It was an interesting exercise, to say the least.
Happily, I was also quite pleased with how my HD hols fic, The Christmas Wish, turned out. It was definitely on the fluffy side, though. :)
There was Snarry, too, of course. What Harry Did in Detention 2 was a collaboration with Lilyseyes, Dance Lessons was the KK fic I wrote for
torino10154, and Raising Severus was the Snapely hols fic I did last year. All (especially the collab *glee*) were fun to write!
February:
27,010 words posted.
Riskiest fic this month was a Snarry BDSM fic with a twist I wrote for
unbroken_halo as part of Snarry Swap, Discipline.
My DD this month, Better With Brandy was also a bit different for me as well since it featured a bit of femmeslash. *g*
And the fluffiest bit of fluff? Prolly A Week Before Valentine's Day which was H/D written for
harrylovesdraco and
hd_pots_n_porn.
March:
22,832 words.
Despite the decent word count, this was a relative quiet fic month. I guess those drabbles add up. ;)
My DD this month was a Blaise/Draco fic A Helping Hand inspired by another DD member's fic.
Funnest fic of the month was the H/D I wrote for Valensmut: Teamwork.
April:
21,885 words.
My first DD was a fun collab with
unbroken_halo and
vivid_zephyr. A Steamy Romance. I know some don't approve of Billville, but I dare anyone to look at the art that was done for that piece and not like it. ;)
The other DD was a bunny that would not leave me alone. Thus came a Snarry fic The Brothel of Requirement, with a couple of side pairings (Remus/Hermione, George/Fred).
Interestingly, Family, a Snarry which I wrote for
accioslash's birthday, and which had a side pairing of Dudley/Millicent, got me interested in writing more Dudley. You'll see the end result of that a bit further down the list. ;)
Also, Neville and Kingsley got to have fun in drabbles this month; Neville with Viktor Krum in The Durmstrang Dominator, Kingsley with Xeno Lovegood in Newsworthy.
May:
37,835 words.
My OT3 finally made an appearance in my DD fic for May, Extra Training. Yay, Drapery!
Funnest fics? A couple of birthday gifts! Play Time, which was written for
kabal42 and Definite Distraction, for
gryffindor_j. They're both H/D and I chuckled all the way through writing them. :)
It was also a month of much Snarry (gotta love the Snarry_a_Thong Thon. Heh). I wrote Picture Perfect Gryffindor, Potter, P. I., and Whole Again for the fest.
June:
28,855 words
This was the month of wankfest, for which I wrote The Option for More.
And speaking of Hermione, I posted what is my longest femmeslash to date this month. Reap What You Sew (Hermione/Millicent) was written for
leela_cat as part of
hp_beholder and I'm pretty pleased with it.
This month's DD was Good in a Pinch starring Sirius/Charlie and a strategically placed mirror. ;)
July:
42,830 words.
For DD I did a pairing that is my head canon for Severus (before Harry). Charmed Correspondence (Your Turn) has Severus/Regulus experimenting over the summer hols.
It was also MPreg month in which I did Gestational Magic and Helping Harry to Hum both H/D for the
harrydracompreg fest.
And speaking of H/D, Stirring the Pot was my
hd_smoochfest submission.
On the rarepair front, I posted To Boldly Go featuring Kingsley/Theo Nott. Yeah, idek.
Fic that made me LOL the most while writing it? Hands down it was Big Bang Theory the fic I wrote for my darling
sevfan's bd. H/D banter ftw!
August:
This is always my pithiest month. :/ 12,920 words.
My DD, like just about everyone else's in August, was Charlie/Draco. Private Property. Gotta love that pairing. :)
September:
16,145 words.
Oddly, this was another non-con month at DD. What Happens in Gringotts Stays in Gringotts takes a left turn from canon and features Travers/Hermione. *shakes head* My muse can be so weird.
On the fluffier side, I did a second Snarry collab with
lilyseyes Sensaory Stimulation. *g*
October:
14,300 words.
This was when I wrote the filthiest fic of the year, thanks to
torino10154. Heh. I can always rely on her. A Family Thing stars Ron/Lily Luna with implied Albus Severus/James Sirius/Luna. Mmm, family closeness. ;)
The fic that made me giggle the most was Of Tits and Treats which had H/D, their canon kids, and some pretty funny lines, even if I do say so myself. :)
November:
14,680 words.
For 'squick yourself' month at DD I wrote Changelings which is sort of Snarry, sort of...not. Heh.
And, because no month is complete without some sweetness, I also wrote a schmoopy H/D The Fires of Passion.
December:
56,870 words (I know!).
This was the month in which my muse decided I had to write not one but TWO Holiday series. *glares at her*
If interested, these were Seekers and Keepers, (which is still not finished, but will be, I promise) and Chrismas in Diagon.
This was also the month of Dudley's Redemption. I wrote Living His best Life for the
dudley_redeemed fest, and it was FUN! It made me want to write more Dudders. :)
I also did a bunch of Snarry, which can mostly be found HERE under my 2011 Adventdrabbles tag.
And, since I can't talk about any of my still pending fest fics yet, here are a few other things I enjoyed doing this month.
For
3fan_holidays I wrote Snarry and apparently didn't fool my recipient for even a nanosecond. *rolls eyes* A Wonderful Life featured lots of...Burrow action, and it seemed just
torino10154's speed. She seemed to like it, anyway. ;)
And for those who are following my series for DracoHarry100, Promises and Lies (which is up to part 45!) I am planning to pick it up from where I left off, don't worry!
And that's it for major fics for the year.
As you all know, I write tons of drabbles which, for anyone who's interested, can be found either under my drabbles tab or by specific character/pairing via my tags.
So that's it!
The official word total for 2011 is:
354,239 words of fic. Pretty close to last year which was 339,336. This seems to be my max possible, unless I start writing really epic fics (unlikely).
I didn't do a breakdown by pairing this year, I simply wasn't that organized, I'm afraid. :)
As for fandom resolutions, I have several.
1) Write more gen and rarepairs. Although, tbh, I think I write a fair number of rarepairs already, despite my (supposed) reputation for only writing Snapefic. ;)
2) Fewer fests FOR SURE. Last year was nuts and I can already tell that this year will be just as busy. Selective! I must be selective.
3) Collaborate with more people. It's fun.
4) Curb my expectations. I refuse to let what other people do (or don't do) disappoint me anymore.
5) Have more fun in fandom!
So, that's it. No big surprises I don't think. And this was a surprisingly fun post to do since I got to look over my stuff of the last year. :)

Date: 2012-01-04 01:25 am (UTC)My resolution (HA!) for 2012 is to drop you more comments. I read so much of your work and LOVE it to pieces, but umm, well *squirms like Harry in detention* figured you didn't set much store in such things so I don't say thanks nearly as much as I ought to. I'll even try to read the 'weird' stuff, like Ron/Lily Luna. *G*
Well done, lady!

Date: 2012-01-04 02:23 am (UTC)And I wish it worked that way. Sadly, I'm a terrible typist (just ask anyone in slash chat). I do get ideas as I drift off to sleep but I usually forget everything I thought of by the time I get up. *sigh*
But thank you so much! And I truly do cherish every comment. I've had people say they're not sure what to say in response to something, and honestly, even a smilie face is lovely. It lets me know someone is out there, you know?
Anyway, thanks again! And yeah, I know I write some weird pairings, but it's how I have fun and I like to think that it shows that I'm enjoying myself in fandom. *g*
