My take on DH
Jul. 25th, 2007 09:50 pmWell, even though everyone and their grandmother has DH theories, I'm going to chime in with mine.
I meant to re read it on the plane but I didn't manage it. Instead I wrote ficlets and drabbles, hence the spammage today, but I still want to say a few things about the closing of canon. I hope this isn't too incoherent as I suspect I'm still a bit jet lagged...
Needless to say, here there be spoilers, so beware!
So, this may not be a popular opinion amongst slashers, but I liked the book. She definitely stood things in their heads for a lot of it, which made it exciting and interesting.
Most of what I'm going to say has been said before I'm sure, so if it's a repeat, it just means I'm not that original of a thinker.
1) Snape isn't dead. There I've said it. He's not dead and as far as I'm concerned no one can say the reasons why better than
snapetoy. As she and others have said, if you were a Potions master, working for a big-assed snake owning Dark Lord, wouldn't it occur to you to have some precautions in place? Like a basic bezoar? And maybe some Draught of Living Death up your sleep if you need to pretend? *eyeroll* I mean this is not a stupid man. He HAD to have thought this through. Just sayin'.
2) So that leaves Remus, who apparently got a personality transplant in this book. He's harder to retrieve, although the fact that she didn't even deign to tell us HOW he died does tick me off just a bit. Still, if we don't know how he died and all we see is his body then who knows? I was thinking that perhaps he's in the OoTP relocation plan. ;) Werewolves aren't that liked, and who knows what the Ministry will do with them now, so maybe someone substituted a DE body for his and Remus is off living his life in Africa. Of course that does leave Teddy in the lurch, but perhaps Harry's in the know and Teddy visits his dad frequently?
3) Dobby is a given, I think. We have no clue about Elf magic, so I say Dobby's taking a nap, he wakes up and is surprised to find himself underground and he goes back to Hogwarts.
4) Fred is a hard one; another pointless death really. A wall fell on him? *raises eyebrow* That's like "rocks fall, everyone dies." I think Fred and George were testing their new doppleganger droobles and the wall fell on his candy replica. Fred woke up later wondering what all the fuss was about, wandered downstairs only to find ppl mourning his death and when he reveals himself, much happiness ensues.
5) Mad-Eye is a bit out of it, what with having lost his eye, but he fwas found by someone, nursed back to health and drawn to his eye, finds it buried. Once he sees what's going on he rushes to Hogwarts only to find Voldie is dead. Kingsley appoints him to some new post secretly. :)
6) Tonks.
eeyore9990 said that best I think. She's a metamorphagus and we don't know what that means. She's faking it. Once she's rested enough she'll be back.
7) Hedwig. She's prolly used to being shot at. i figure the cage finally broke and she flew away to be nursed by Hagrid who forgot to tell Harry until after the battle (admit it, Hagrid's a bit scattered).
Anyway, you get the idea. Canon is only what we make of it. Since Snape lives on for me, he can't be dead, can he? Hell, the Sirius shippers have been telling us that for years, there are no lack of Snack, Sirry, Sirumus stories, are there?
And, as
dracofiend said at the conference, we don't even have to explain it. All we have to do is tell our stories. Which is what I think I'll go do now. Write some more stories. :)
