It's difficult being back in RL land since just last week I was living the fun life in NYC.
Wanna know what I did and who I saw? Well, I'm glad you asked...
I arrived later than expected on Monday night and met up with the always charming and hilarious
drgaellon. He even picked me up at my hotel, bless him. We went to Chinatown and after rendezvousing with
r_grayjoy,
twilightsorcery and
kabal42, had dim sum for dinner, followed by Italian pastries (and cocktails) for dessert. Fun, fun!
r_grayjoy hung out with me until Tuesday when she had to leave and then
kabal42 and I hung out and chatted for the afternoon (by which I mean we watched the inauguration and Kabal hugged me periodically since I was a weepy mess). The evening, me and my friend who lives in NY, T, went to dinner, and when
dementordelta and
rubyrosered arrived later that evening we met up and went to a local piano bar. There, Delta and I decided that every song the pianist played/sang could be the basis for a Snarry. I think we're pondering a new fest, Snarry song fest. *g*
Wednesday was the big day, of course. Delta, Ruby, Kabal, myself and
kittie8571 met up, had lunch, then went to see Dancock Equus from the front row.
So... Equus. What can I say that's not already been said by far more eloquent people? Having seen this for the THIRD time, I can unequivocally say that Dan is getting better and better in this role. He was believable before, but he's really immersing himself in the role of Alan Strang. He's now living it.Captain Janeway Kate Mulgrew is a LOT calmer, Richard Griffiths has (somehow) gotten better as the psychiatrist as well.
We left immediately after to go to dinner because Delta had obtained tickets to see Enter Laughing, so we ate at a local pub before toddling off to see that. It was the PERFECT follow up to Equus, btw. Utterly hilarious, and, somehow, we ended up in the first row there, too. *g*
The evening ended with dessert (cheesecake and pie), as all good evenings should. *g*
The next couple of days flew by, consumed by shopping and just hanging out with Kabal, who is a great conversationalist. We did go to the restaurant that Dan has reportedly said serves 'the best food in NY', and I discovered that Dan really knows his food. Cafe Luxembourg was FABULOUS, great wine, excellent service and the port was delish. There may have been drunken shopping afterward. ;)
Ah, but you wanna hear about the Dan meeting, don't you?
Kabal decided to hang out by the stage door on Thursday night. Mind you, it'd been FUCKING cold all week, so I waved him off and said "have fun, call if you see Dan". Well, I get a text a few minutes later that the place is deserted, come on down. So, after
sassy_cissa reminds me that I AM in NY, two blocks away (and what the hell else am I doing anyway, right?) I go. It becomes more crowded, of course, people showing up seemingly out of nowhere for a glimpse of Dan.
Richard comes out first, and he's actually in a good mood (for him).

He wanders off and Dan emerges a few minutes later looking tired. He signs stuff, then turns to the side I'm on, whereupon I promptly drop my Playbill at his feet. *sigh* He pauses as if to say "um, ok" then keeps going, this weird smirk on his face. Meanwhile I am feeling like a fool.

Is it me or does Dan look a bit stressed here? *pets him*
Anyway, Kabal managed to get his autograph (so that's good at least), and then Dan steps into his car and is off.
As you see, the pictures are not as good as the set I got the last time, but they do prove I was THIS FAR from Dan, so that's something. *g*
And that's it! That's likely to be the last time I see Dan, at least in this show since it's coming to the end of its run. I do hope he does more Broadway, though, he's really improved over the three times I saw him, so I can only imagine how much better he'll get if he keeps at it.
