So guess where I've been the last few days. *g* At my local comic-con!

This was its first year and I bought the "Tom Felton Package", which I should tell you is why I was so excited to go. *glee*

But first let me set it up for you )

So, in sum: I am impressed with my home town, I got to see [insanejournal.com profile] lilyseyes (wheeeee!), and there was a lot of fabulous cos-play! People were also happy and upbeat, and, apart from a few organizational issues (due I think to the Wizard Con people and not the locals), this ran really well.

Bravo, home town!

This will prolly be my last San Diego Comic-Con post since I'm pretty sure I'm never going again (although I'm seriously considering going to at least one day of Chicago Comic-Con as I'll be there at the same time as it's happening). BUT, since I have finally managed to figure out how to get pictures off my phone (shush, I'm technologically challenged, okay?) I figured I'd share some of them with you. Keep in mind that I take crappy pictures, lol.

Cut for massive picspam )

- Got up even earlier to ensure a spot for the Dr Who panel. Was initially scared when I was almost the same place in line as I was yesterday hen I got there an hour later, until I realized that people had been camping out overnight, and when they compressed the line, I would be a lot closer. I was. *g*
- Standing on concrete for 4 1/2 hours still sucks, though.
- Fringe. Great panel. It's going to be their last season and they hinted at upcoming plots. The actors were all so sweet, several times as they were talking about working on the show they started to cry. *sniffs* Really lovely. I can't wait to see what they come up with this season. Also? The actress who plays Astrid was just so sweet. :)
- Supernatural. I swear one of these day I am going to start watching this show. I've never seen an episode but every time I've seen them on a panel they are hilarious. They really do have fabulous chemistry together. The writers wouldn't give anything away, but the hints from the preview they played looked very exciting, and the gag reel made us all chuckle. And did I mention the great chemistry? ;)
- DOCTOR WHO! EeeeeeeeEEEEeeeee! Amy (Karen Gillen) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) came, along with the Doctor (Matt Smith) AND Mr Moffet himself, were a lot of fun. And it was nice to see the Ponds one last time. *sniffs* We got to see a FAB preview of next season, which apparently starts with Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. No really, it's the title AND it's what was in the clip we saw. *g* I also got some cute pictures of an adorable little boy dressed up as a TARDIS. :)
- I skipped out after that since I don't know anything about Game of Thrones and went to line up for the one HP panel I saw listed. It was all about the future of the franchise and, while the topics mentioned were mostly okay (theme park plans, Pottermore, wizard wrock, International Quidditch), I was so tired (plus, there was no discussion of the most important thing- Snarry) that I left about mid-way through.
- Dinner with the adorable [insanejournal.com profile] severa_snape at our "usual" fondue restaurant. Mmmm, cheese and chocolate, how can you go wrong?
- Now I'm back at the hotel packing and planing to go to bed. I'll be home tomorrow, yay!

And now, a letter to the organizers of Comic Con )
alisanne: (Default)
- Managed to get into Hall H, but it was a close thing. We got to the line at 7 am and it was already stretching out behind the marina and towards Coronado Island. (Well, not really, but it felt like it). After a 5 hour wait we got in, got seats towards the back, and hung on for the ride. *g*
- Django Unchained. I wasn't sure I was going to like this since Quinten Tarrantino is hit-or-miss for me, but this looks like one I may have to catch. It's a fascinating premise about a freed slave whose wife was sold away from him and he teams up with a German bounty hunter to find and rescue her. Of course, since it's Tarratino, there's plenty of blood and gore, but since more of that is Jamie Foxx shooting people who are standing in the way of his rescue? I was okay with it. :)
- Silent Hill and End of Watch. I've never heard of this game but apparently they are basing a movie on it and it looks CREEPY. *shudders*
- Warner Brothers Pictures upcoming lineup. This included Pacific Rim - kick ass robot movie, Godzilla - yes, the director said they were treating it 'seriously', and Man of Steel - another Superman origin story but this one looks good, kinda dark and gritty. There were even hints that, with the success of Avengers, DC was considering making a Justice league movie (as long as they can get their act together re: Superman, Batman et al). There was a Will Farrell movie promoted, too, but meh, he's not my fave. Oh, and I forgot to mention this earlier, THE HOBBIT! Which looks fabulous.
- Trailer park. Featuring trailers of upcoming movies (mostly animated), several of which look entertaining. :) This included: Dredd, Finding Nemo 3D, Ice Age (the newest one), The Guardians of something (lol, yeah, I know, but it did look cute), Resident Evil whatever number they're up to now (do we really need more of these?) and Hotel Transylvania.
- Iron Man 3. OMFG! First, RDJ came dancing out onto the floor of the con, high-fiving people, wearing an Iron Man glove that lit up. We all went nuts of course. Then, when we calmed down, we saw some clips. OMG! It looks like it'll be AWESOME! The things they're doing with the suit? Dear LORD. And may I just say? RDJ. Looked fine. DAMNED FINE. The panel was hilarious with the director finally saying, "What's our secret? Our secret is that RDJ IS Tony Stark". And he totally is. *happy sigh*
- Also at that panel: We got the names and release of the follow up films. Thor 2 - The Dark Dimension I think, Captain America 2 is - The Winter Soldier *shivers happily*, we found out that they are making A Guardians of the Galaxy movie (and showed the art concepts for the team) and we got to see clips from the upcoming Ant Man movie (which OMG, looks FAB!)
- Kevin Smith. Was his usual hilarious and irreverent and totally awesome self. The man is a born storyteller.

And that was it. Sorry I'm so behind in comments, all, but Comic-Con days are LOOOONG.
Tomorrow will be more Hall H (starting even earlier I imagine).

- 6 am is early, yo! That was when I got up to be on line for Ballroom 20. Happily, I got in to see all the panels I wanted. :)
- Community. I've never seen it but the clips they showed looked fun and it got lots of recs from the people in line. I may have to give it a shot when I get home.
- The Legend of Korra! LOVE this show, and I have to say, the girls who cos-played Korra (and those who dressed as other water/fire benders) were on the whole quite good. Anyway, it's been picked up and so will finish it's 52 episode run! I can't wait to see the rest of it, what they showed us looks VERY EXCITING. :) Next season is about spirits. *g*
- As an aside, I should mention that there were several excellent Lady Lokis at the Korra panel, and even a couple of Hogwarts students.
- Firefly! Well I'm sure I don't need to tell you, but the entire room went nuts for a while. Nathan Filion, Sumer Glowe, and Joss were there, in addition to the actors who played Wash, the doctor, and Jayne. There's a 10th anniversary special coming up on the Science Channel that I'm quite excited for. :)
- Bones. Meh, I've never watched, so I read a book during that one.
- Arrow. We got to see the first episode. New show with an interesting premise. The origin story is kinda Dark Knight-ish, only maybe a bit darker. We'll see.
- Powerful women in pop culture. It was okay, the women (which included Zena!) made some great points about how women's acting roles and society's expectations have changed and about how far we have yet to go.
- JOSS WHEDON again! An hour of Joss making hilarious jokes and telling us what projects he's working on, including Dr Horrible II, Much Ado About Nothing (his version), and the next season of the Buffy comic. :)
- Dinner with [insanejournal.com profile] adafrog, who is lovely. We had Indian food and discovered that we share similar professions. *g*

Now to prepare for Hall H tomorrow. Gah! Wish me luck!
alisanne: (Default)
- So this morning was a slow morning program wise, thus I slept in, getting up at about 9 am.
- My first con thing to do was check out the vendor floor, which was PACKED. I swear, this con gets more crowded every year. It's rare that I wish for a sword so ppl would avoid me, but this morning was one of those times. I did, however, manage to find the Steampunk jewelery vendor where I often buy fun Steampunk stuff. :)
- I also picked up an adorable plushie Dalek and collected some swag. *glee*
- I'm not sure I'm going back to the vendor floor again this trip, though. *shudder* Not without a sword, anyway. ;)
- Lunch was here in the Marriott hotel, after which I wandered by the line for Hall H, which was packed. Not in the mood to stand outside and swelter, I opted to try the Indigo Ballroom, and was able to walk right in and get good seat. *g*
- The Voltron panel was fun! We got to see some exclusive pages and vid for the upcoming books/movie.
- Power Rangers was.. okay. They're certainly enthusiastic. :)
- Hotel Transylvania! Utterly adorable-looking movie with a very cute premise. I may have to go see it.
- Wilfred. Weird little comedy show starring Elijah Wood, who was at the panel. (Yes, [livejournal.com profile] lijahlover, I got pics. They are on my phone. *g*) Wilfred is a dog, played by a human and the humor is...crude. I did laugh, though, and the cast is clearly enjoying themselves.
- Archer. I've never watched this but I may start. Yes, the humor is also kinda crude, but it's looks like a pretty sardonic little series. We saw the first episode of the next season, and though I know nothing about the show, it was funny.
- Rif Trax! This was the whole reason I went to the Indigo Ballroom in the first place. I love these guys and they are always hilarious. This year they MST3K'd a film about safety in the home that was...awful. The main character, a crossing guard/free lance architect, was captured by aliens, who gave her magical powers - the ability to know when children are in trouble and rescue them? And trust me, I'm making it sound a lot better than it was. Heh.
- The crowd trying to leave the convention center was INSANE (I took pics but they are also on my phone, although I did share them with [insanejournal.com profile] lilyseyes by text) so I escaped to my hotel and decided not to go grocery shopping tonight, as I usually do.
- Plan for tomorrow? Ballroom 20. *eyes clock* Which means it's time for bed.

I hope everyone's okay! I don't seem to be getting my LJ or IJ email notifications, so if I don't reply to a comment, don't start cursing me until next week, k? ♥

Edit: And I almost forgot. Ran into Stan Lee, comic book legend, in the lobby of my hotel last night on the way up to my room. He looks great!

So I'm off to Comic Con today, thus, the usual rules apply.
Don't break anything (like the internet), and if you do anything interesting, be sure to leave me a message so I can check it out. ;)

I'm not sure what I'll be trying to see this year at Comic Con. For sure Iron Man 3, and anything to do with Avengers, but other than that...it'll just depend on my mood.

I know a couple of you on my Flist are going, so if you'd like we can try to get together, just leave me a comment here and we'll plot and plan.

And, last, I have been saving this LOLcat for like a year in anticipation of this moment. *g*

*yawns*
I'm pretty tired, having just got home from Comic Con. The good thing? I managed to get in to see the main panel I wanted to see today. The bad thing? I had to leave early to get my plane. *sigh* Oh well, I am now safe at home.

- Got up at 4:45 to get on line for Hall H. I had to check out of the hotel and pack everything to go since I was leaving directly for the airport right after the Dr Who panel. BTW, dragging rolling luggage over grass? NOT fun.

- Because I was on line so early, though, I got in to see everything this morning!

- Glee. Saw some excerpts from the upcoming Glee 3D movie before the panel came out. They were all very fun and pretty overwhelmed at the screaming welcome they got. :)

- Supernatural. You know, I have never watched that show, but I may have to start. From what I can see, the main stars (Jared and Jensen?) have some awesome chemistry. They were clearly playing to their fans. Lots of flirting and touching going on up on the stage. Oh, and they played a blooper reel that was HYSTERICAL. *g* Apparently there is an anime coming, too? We got to see excerpts of that as well. :)

- DR WHO! Eeeeeee! Karen and Matt were SOOOO CUUUTE. And they were clearly totally blown away by the loud and enthusiastic welcome. OMG, we saw a preview of the upcoming season as well a snippet of an episode and I cannot WAIT! *bounces*
There were some awesome cosplayers at the panel, too (I have pics but I'm too tired to figure out how to post tonight - maybe tomorrow), all in all it was fab. I was so sad I had to leave before people finished asking questions.

- Plane ride home was uneventful (which is always good).

Am off to bed, all. *waves* Will be catching up with Flists (and hopefully writing) tomorrow.
alisanne: (Default)
This will be a quick update since I pretty much have to go to bed immediately in order to be up for the morning panels.

- Got up at the crack of dawn to get on the line for tickets for next year. *sigh* Seriously, there is NOTHNG here that doesn't involve a line. I DID get the tickets, though. :)

- Went to the buffet breakfast in the Hyatt (where they had the ticket line).

- Returned to hotel for a rest. *g*

- Went to see Kevin Smith for his monologue (I go every year) and he was HILARIOUS. *G*

- Went to dinner with [insanejournal.com profile] witchdragon. Mmm, Thai food! :)

- Now am home and plan to go to bed as soon as I post this since I have to be up at 4am (yikes) to get on line.

Directly after the Dr Who panel I leave for the airport, so I should be home tomorrow night. Don't break the internet in the meantime, and [livejournal.com profile] dracoharry100 peeps, I'll be posting the new prompt pretty late tomorrow, FYI.

*waves*

In which I got up EARLY (i.e. 5 am). *sigh* And of course, since I can never have an uneventful morning, I broke my hair iron thingy. *eyeroll* At that time of the morning I didn't care though, so...meh.

- Got to the Ballroom 20 line by 6:20 and happily [insanejournal.com profile] witchdragon was already there, so I was able to join her, thus moving up in the line. :) The lines are even more insane this year, this morning it snaked all the way down to the marina from the convention center, but we were in the early group so we got in fine. *glee*

- The first panel was Torchwood: Miracle Day and OMG, John Barrowman was ON. He is such a HAM, and this year they gave him a female moderator, which was good since last year they gave him a male moderator and the poor guy didn't know what to do with himself as John flirted outrageously with him. Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper) was there, too, and she was awesome as well. Very fun and flirty. That was a seriously great panel, I laughed so hard my cheeks hurt. :)

- The Walking Dead. Another fabulous panel (actually, we really lucked out, ALL our panels to day were excellent). And I had no idea that Andrew Lincoln, the lead actor, was Australian! Mm, love that accent.

- Big Bang Theory. Okay, so I have watched maybe ONE random episode of this, but nevertheless, it was a great panel. The cast were funny, they writers were chatty and fun, and I may have to seriously consider catching up on this show (although in what spare time?).

- Eurika! OMG, another awesome panel (for a show I actually watch this time). It was Colin Ferguson's (the guy who plays sheriff Carter) birthday, so we all sang him happy birthday (all 4500 of us) and he recorded it. *g* The hilarious thing? Apparently, Colin, who on the show acts kinda dumb, does all sorts of research into the scientific theories of the show, so he often spends time explaining that 'science' to the other cast members. Hehehe.

- Warehouse 13. ANOTHER fabulous panel for another of my fave shows. They had Eddie Mcclintock (Pete Latimer) talking about how people are always mistaking him for David Boreanaz. Hehehe. The actresses who play Micah and Claudia were there, too, (don't know their names) ad were so much fun and were talking about all the great fan mail they get from girls who idolize them, and they talked about the Micah/HG Wells PLT (pre-lesbian tension) that is apparently a deliberate choice on the part of the writers (awesome!).

- We left Ballroom 20 and walked over to one of the smaller rooms to see Vertigo, a panel about a comic relating to an American vampire. I was only there for the following panel, but I think I may give that comic a try, the discussion was really intriguing.

- Riff Trax! OMG, these guys are always hysterical, and this year was no different. *giggles* They had to put them in a bigger room because they get more and more popular. :) Amonst the movies people suggested for the Riff Trax treatment: Jaws 3D in 2D, Logan's Run and Zardoz, all of which could only be improved by having them do a commentary. :)

- Limped out of the convention center and to CVS to buy a new hair iron thingy and some socks. What? I was going to alternate wearing sandals and sneakers, but with all the walking decided to stick just with sneakers and needed more socks ([insanejournal.com profile] lilyseyes and [insanejournal.com profile] dementordelta know how I am about buying socks).

- Met up with the absolutely adorable [insanejournal.com profile] severa_snape for dinner (mmm, fondue), and am now back at the hotel.

As soon as I post this I'm heading for bed, since I am determined to get on line for my tickets for next year first thing in the morning. Gah.

Night, all!

And seriously, I KNOW I'm missing things, so if there's something I need to see, point me and I'll check it out. Eventually.

*smooches [insanejournal.com profile] lilyseyes goodnight*

alisanne: (Default)
...in which I remember how much I hate lines.

- Slept in and got up about 7 to see if I could secure my tickets for next year since there wasn't anything I wanted to see that badly in the big halls. Short answer? NO. The line was so long by the time I got there that I knew it was impossible. I'm not sure I'm going to try any other day, either.

- Went to a smaller room which had panels for Planet of the Apes (the comic book). It was a fabulous discussion, actually and the panel was very engaging.

- Stayed in the same room for Deus Ex, Human revolution. Again, absolutely fascinating discussion regarding the future of cybernetics. The game looked very dystopian, but I can see it happening in our lifetime if things don't change.

- Patricia Briggs panel was fabulous! She's someone I only recently discovered who writes urban fantasy novels. I highly recommend her Mercy Thompson Series and her Alpha and Omega Series. She was funny, told great anecdotes, and was down to earth and just lovely.

- Went to lunch at Nobu. Very delicious, if quite chi-chi.

- Returned and made a run through the exhibition floor, where I picked up some lovely steampunk jewelry as well as a couple of Christmas pressies. Score!

- Tried to get back in to see the TV Guide panel, which Matt Smith was supposed to be on, but the line was ridic, so I instead joined the insane line for Batman, Arkham City. Managed to get in for most of that as well as Voltron Force (I LOVED that cartoon as kid!), followed by Pen and Teller hilarious).

- Returned to the hotel and had dinner in the hotel restaurant (OMG, slow waiters are SLOW)

- Am finally back in room to prepare for tomorrow, which will be an early and LONG day. *sets alarm for 5 am - ugh).

And apologies to everyone whose comments I have not yet responded to. I'm not ignoring you, I just have VERY limited internet time and so I spend more of it posting drabbles and updates and checking email. I promise I'll catch up once I get back home to reliable internet. ♥
alisanne: (Default)
You would think that the day before the con would be for relaxed travel, right? You would be wrong.

- Alarm didn't go off, so I woke up late. Happily, I still made my plane.

- Arrived in San Diego this afternoon and immediately went to the convention hotel where they were giving out badges. Lost my pedometer getting out of the cab. *grrr* And like every official (and non official) Comic Con event, there was a ginormous line, so that was fun (not). Thank God for my ipad.

- Badge obtained, I checked into the hotel. Room wasn't ready, so they gave me a suite (and a very nice one it is, too) so that was cool.

- Went grocery shopping.

- Scoured the program book to make a plan for tomorrow.

- Talked to [insanejournal.com profile] severa_snape and we made dinner plans for Friday! Yay!

- Went to dinner at Donovans (yum).

- Wandered around to walk off some of dinner and, while in CVS, ran into a very frantic-looking John Barrowman buying toiletries. *g* And yes, I am without a doubt, taller than he is. :)

- Came back to hotel to try to post the Snarry100 and Neville100 prompts (since I won't be around much tomorrow), only my internet is wonky. Happily, my darling [insanejournal.com profile] lilyseyes is helping me out. Oddly, DW seems to fine, it's just IJ that will not load for me. *kicks it*

- Hoping to write at some point tomorrow.

- I am also counting on seeing [insanejournal.com profile] witchdragon (who I met at Comic Con 2 years ago) tomorrow. *glee*

That's it! Will keep you posted on any more John Barrowman (or other celebrity) sightings.

Wheee!
